Firstly, I can only apologise for the radio silence… My promise to sit down and write every month or so has well and truly gone out of the window as the last time I wrote was in February and now here we are in July… But here we are nonetheless!
Winter was full-on for us, with the renovation happening next door for the B&B and lots to set up on the farm. Both Will and I were excited for our first spring up North – and wow, it didn’t disappoint. The sun started shining in early March and it honestly feels like it hasn’t stopped! Lots of people have said this might be the nicest spring Northumberland has had in years, and we’re delighted its welcomed us with such warmth (though slightly nervous it might all be downhill from here!!).
April all feels a total blur. We started out welcoming our very lovely first guests into the B&B on the 31st March. Luckily for us, they were absolute dream first guests and loved everything! I have really enjoyed meeting so many people with different stories, generally either walking the wall or off to a wedding at one of the venues close by! I’ve certainly got my Full English down to a bit of a routine now – which was needed when doing breakfasts for guests during lambing, after a night of very little sleep !
Our first lambs from the main flock arrived on the 3rd of April, usually they come in dribs and drabs for the first few days, but ours seemed to all decide that it was time, and the madness began! Luckily, ably assisted by some very kind family and friends (plus a well-stocked fridge and freezer for speedy dinners) we managed to make it through all still laughing, though mostly from delirium!
As April flew by, May brought a bit of normality. We’ve been amazed by the response to the B & B, with over 100 bookings in our very first month! This has continued and we are delighted with how it’s going so far, whether you are heading up to Scotland and want a place to stop over on the way up, or wanting to explore all the finest things that Northumberland has to offer – We would love to have you stay!
